It is a carriage type bolt with 'spurs' on the square below the rounded bolt head. It seems to have bitten into the mount stanchion that is attached to the engine. I can't get it out! I got the first one out but this one is not budging. No room to cut it out, no room in the cross-member recess to jam nut it, no room to whallop with a hammer, pry it or get to it period. It will wiggle back and forth but not up and down. I am thinking of buying a pneumatic hammer attachment but thought I'd ask here first for advice. All suggestions are appreciated as I am running out of effective swear words. Thank You!

Old fashioned nail puller with counter weight (bearing puller type) won’t grab it? You got the nut off? But no room there to give it a good bang. Would a pry bar (adjusted to the space available) work? Is there room to get the drill with drill bit on top and drill the head off? Grind the head off and push it back? Can you work around it until there is room to get to it? (Take off other parts first?) For swearing go Dutch we have a unlimited selection, just end every sentence with "godverdomme" and use it instead of the F-word combined with "gotverdorie" it will break any bad spell. More here when needed. Good luck Richard | | | | Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 272 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 272 | Hello Truck'26, I don't have ability to weld. The bolt head could be accessed better if I remove the entire grill assembly but it is still nestled in a pocket of the stancion from above and packed in close to the timing gear cover and behind the harmonic balancer. Picture below. Bolt is behind red arrow. Yes, the nut is off and dispite the fact that I have attempted to abuse the bolt from below, it remains unharmed and re-useable if I can extract it. The Pry bar won't fit. I have gone through all of my English,Spanish, Italian and German helper-words so I will now try your Dutch! Spanish and Italian are none mechanical curses, so they won’t work anyway, but they are great with a beer or two and a broken heart Lifting the whole engine out won't work? Bolt should follow then? I feel your "joy" my truck is build with pre-rounded bolts and nuts which will break when touched if embedded in cast iron and will be incredibly tough when just going through something with an ordinary nut. PO must have used the opposite of WD-40 on all of them and pre-cut the ones that go in to the engine block. Aren’t old bolts wonderful? Enjoy, the better the result will be. And remember it doesn’t have to be today or even tomorrow, but somewhere in the near future you’ll manage to get it out. I guess you have the nut off and want to remove the bolt, but it is stuck. I won't ask why you are taking these bolts off unless you are pulling the engine!
If you have the nut off...could you screw it back on flush with the end of the bolt. This would make a small flat surface which you could use a platform as you take your hydraulic jack and a small pusher, and shove the bolt up.
I think this bolt goes through the front motor mount, and this is where it might be hung. As I recall, it fits tight in the holes through the mount.

Try getting a wrench on it. If I'm reading you correctly the bolt won't clear the timing gear cover, allowing it come out? There's a chance the threaded end is hanging up in the motor mount & not allowing the bolt to "lean" far enough to pull out. If so you might try jacking the front of the engine enough to get the motor mount out (an inch or two should do it). That might give you enough room to pull the bolt out. A floor jack & 2x4 should be all you need to jack the engine up a bit. Good luck.

Jack the engine up high enough to replace the mount then lower it with the bolt still stuck in place through the new mount, Scott | | | | Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 272 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2006 Posts: 272 | Good Answers! I can actually jack the engine up by this bolt! Its fangs are embedded in the 1/8" steel engine plate thing that supports the engine above. Yesterday, six hours of fooling with the darn bolt to no avail. I am a patient person, but probably a little too much so. I sure hope I don't have to lift the whole godverdomme engine out just to replace the front mount! I have just come back from shopping at my auto parts store for the ultimate weapon - an air hammer. Armed with this and Truck'26's verbal Dutch tools, I may get somewhere today. I will report later. Thanks all!

Not bad for a girl huh? Thank you all for your support and encouragement and humor, it's priceless! Now I am going to go make a donation to this website to celebrate. Thanks Y'all
