I would greatly appreciate any advice on how to mount a power steering pump on a '54 235 engine and how to connect it to the harmonic balancer. Thanks

Look at the pictures in my link below under the axle swap folder. I have pictures of how I mounted my pump. It has worked great for me with 10,000 miles or so on it now.

If you have drilled and tapped side engine mount holes on the passanger side of the block you could make a bracket that holds a saginaw pump between a piece you bolt into those holes and a piece you bolt to the timing cover and backing plate. That's how their mounted on ford 4 cyls, only its on the passanger side. Look at a ranger in a junk yard sometime and you'll see what I mean. The old old toyota landcruisers mounted it the same way on the driver side.

For the harmonic balancer you've go a couple of choices: find one with more than one pulley, like what came on the bigger trucks.

or, find a two groove 7" or 7 1/4" bolt on pulley from a small block chevy balancer, drill the rivets holding the single pulley on your balancer, tap the holes and bolt the two groove pulley to the engine side of your crank pulley.

I'm sure there are lots of other ideas out there!
