Looks like a rear main seal leak but I have replaced the seal twice and it continues to leak badly! I know these things always leak a little but.....man this is pretty bad. Can't find anyone who really knows what to do. Thanks for some advice.

Hank, I have scanned a picture from the shop manual, take a look at it. There are two plugs in the rear of your engine that could leak oil, a pipe plug and a camshaft bearing plug. Oil coming from either of them would leak to the rear of your motor and make it seem like the rear main was leaking.

Also reach around the back of the head and make sure that the valve cover gasket is not leaking. Unless I glue my gasket to the valve cover I have trouble with a leak in that area.

I hope this helps..

The new replacement rope seals are of inferior quality to the old ones containing asbestos fibers. The new seals are especially prone to leak if you have replaced the seal halves without pulling the crankshaft.Forcing the upper seal into place ,stretches the fibers, and promotes leaks. On the Stovebolt links are several vendors who sell NOS asbestos seals.I don't like to recomend certain vendors but I believe Stovebolt Engine Co. has them. You may have better luck with the NOS seal. But like Bill says, make sure its the seal that leaking.
