I have 55.5 1/2 ton. I'm trying to pull the steering column out, removed the three on the tree stuff. I took out the mounting bracket in the cab. Now how does the column come out of the gear box?

Hey red, you are going to remove the steering box and column in 1 peice. The column is permenatly attached to the box and the shaft is welded to the worm gear inside the box. You will have to take out the seat to get clearance, taking the left fender and inner skirt will make removal easier. I think the column itself in pressed into the box, I never tried to take it apart when I overhauled mine.

There are a couple different model steering boxes- Some of them you can unbolt the flange at the top of the box and pull the column out that way. I wouldn't do it if I weren't planning on rebuilding the box or getting rid of it.

I've never seen one with a flange on a TF truck, you may be thinking of the '60 and up models. I agree on removing it though, don't do it unless you're going to replace it or rebuild it cause it is a bear to take out and put in.

I've seen it on the AD trucks, like my 51. There are four bolts that hold the column to the box. When I rebuilt it I pulled those four bolts and disconnected the column from the box, no problem. I'm not sure if that would be possible in the 55.5.
