The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area General Truck Talk Weird Wipers

I just bought a '59 big window long step for $300. The weird part is the two speed electric wipers on it. The motor is a Delco Rochester with stamped steel brackets and assembled with clutch head screws, strictly factory made. The strange part is this one has an electrical switch not the usual mechanical slider. It appears to be a worm drive and mounts sideways eith one arm above the motor and one below. It has straight crank arms and turns only one direction. Has anyone seen one of these? It could be a later GM retrofit or ???? Any information would be appreciated. Thanks :confused:

I've never seen anything other than the same old factory wipers - someone may have replaced the switch later, not hard to do - get a shop manual and you'll find the electric wiper covered in it including pics of the internals - if it's anything else it's someones custom job

Thanks for the quick reply. I hear what you're saying, but this looks way too engineered to be a one off. I will post some pics ifI get a chance. The motor has a cam and a relay box cast into the base. I just hope it works cause I have only vacuum otherwise.

they're not too hard to find, and modern replacement units are available at all the vendors made for the application work well
