I have an early 50's chev truck that I am having trouble identifying. The tag says Model 1434. It has a 5 window cab, cowl vent in side of body and in front of window, turn down door handles, and no vent windows. Can anyone tell me more about this truck? Year?

First of all, does this truck have an opening and closing vent on the driver's side just in front of the door? Secondly, does this truck have full glass windows in the doors without vent glass, or is the frame for the vent glass there but the glass isn't? If the windows are all one piece, and the vent is there, your truck would be a late '40's model. The vent proves your truck is from the years before 1950, but the windows can be up to 1951. Also, is the box long, short, or is it a stake bed? Finally, is it a chevy or a GMC? That part matters for identification because the model numbers are different for Chevy's and GMC's.

From your info it would be a 1947-1951 3/4 ton Chev. Canadian trucks have a different numbering system. A Canadian 1/2 ton is a 1300 and a U.S. truck is a 3100. 1400 series means it's a 3/4 ton . It should have 8 lugnuts. You should have a 10 digit number on the plate. The first digit is the year (9 for 1949 or a 1 of 1951 etc.) Next 4 are the model (1434) and the last 5 are the production number. This Canadian vendor has a Canadian decoder in the back of his catalog that will tell you what the 34 stands for. They will be able to tell you exactly what it is over the phone too. Good luck.
