on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 564 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 564 | I seem to remember someone here saying that if a truck was ordered with Posi, that automatically gave it the Dana 44. Were '62/'63 trucks available with a 12-bolt posi?
Basically, can anyone tell me when GM started putting 12-bolt Posi rears in a truck? Or, can someone tell me specifically about the Dana 44/Posi thing. The 12 bolts I believe were in the GMC's if I remember correctly.
I think it was 1960 GMC startd (don't quote me on this lol), but you can use up to 1970 ('70 last year for 6 lug truck rearends), but you'll have to relocate the mounts on the rearend so it can bolt up to the trailing arms on your '62. there is an aftermarket kit for this. David
My truck don't leak oil, it just marks its teritory.

Chevy 1/2 tons with posi used the GMC diff in '59 only. '60-'62 used an Eaton posi in the 3rd member rearend. '63 and later have the modern 12 bolt 8 7/8" rearend. My sources are the '59, '60 Chevy and Chilton's '61-'71 truck manuals.
