Hey guys, I picked up a NOS hood emblem for my 56 3100. Thing that puzzles me is the paint seems to be reversed from what I have seen. The "bowtie" is black and the background is red. The part # is 3725689. This part # is the same as the one that came off my truck with a red bowtie and black background. Here is a pic (sorry for the quality)

Anybody got an idea?

well if it's NOS it's gotta be right doesn't it? I've seen all kinds, and made my 58 black back/red bow, but I wouldn't be suprised if they had different from the factory, even a number of different combo's

On 56 Belair the brass emblem on the 1/4 panel was originally painted white and the 55 was black .All the repos are painted white.May be something similar is the case here as well????

My '58 parts book shows 3725688 as the part number for the '56 emblem (6 cylinder version), with the red bowtie on the black background. Could be a misprint.

The emblem pictured, with the red background, was originally unique to the '57 truck, listed under part #3738185. However, at some point between '58 and '68 (the years of parts books that I have), the '56 and '57 emblems were both listed under that number. It seems the '57 emblem replaced the original '56 one.

So, while the emblem shown may not be original to '56, it can still be considered a correct replacement.

I've also always thought the bowtie was red and background was black on the 56. And that color scheme goes along with the side fender emblems which had a black background.

Could it be that the same part was used on the initial 57 but they changed the colors just on account of?? Sort of like putting the fender emblem on the 55 below the crease then putting it above it for the 55.5 & 56.

Thanks! I'm going to keep my eye out for the proper emblem and sell this one to someone who is restoring a 57.

%6 and 57 hood emblems were identical pieces. Only difference was the reversal of the paint colors.
