For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 34 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 34 | Have '49 1 ton with original rear axle (maybe called an HO72?) I Plan to install a SB Chevy, use original SM420, change out center section, upgrade all brakes.
Is there a way to upgrade the rear brakes, change them over to bendix?

If so, the brakes can be transplanted to your axle. Otherwise, get a post 51 3/4 or 1T axle. The 3/4 will have a 4.57 ratio, and might make for better highway driving. There are many posts and threads here about changing ratios on these trucks. Good luck.
Current fleet (subject to change w/o notice) \'49 GMC 3/4-Ton , 60 Austin Healey Frog-eye Sprite (some assembly required), 2011 Dodge Avenger, 2015 Jeep Cherokee. No, they don't all run. My other ride is a (B737)no, (B767)no, A320.... Update... was Embraer E190, now Boeing B787. Knowledge is a wonderful thing, but ignorance means you don't know you can't do something.
