I have a bent axle on my truck and am curious is it is worth trying to straighten it out or am I better off buying a new one.

A front axle can be straightened by an alignment shop. Rear axle should be replaced.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

I have heard of it being done, but you should be able to pick up a used but straight one pretty easily and cheaply if you shop around a bit.

Actually there is a local 4x4 shop around here that straightens drive axle housings. It can be done if you know what you are doing.

I suspect that by time you pay for the labor it might be cheaper to replace the axle.

Big over the road truck shops all are equipped to straighten axles. Combinations of heavy loads and rough roads cause axle headaches. Whether they would take on a 1/2 or 3/4 ton is anybodys guess. A local shop in the Dallas area has straightened one for me but it was at their convenience, the big rigs came first and that's OK since they earn someone a living.

I have a 78 trans am rear end under my 55.
I will probably go to a scrap yard to find one but I was just curious what you all might know.
Zenish thanks for the offer but my truck is a 1955.
