well, i was finally able to get my 66 K20 in our shop last saturday. since then i have taken the tow truck bed off it. we had a terrible time with that, because the PO WELDED it directly to angle iron, which was then welded to the frame. they added a number of angle iron crossmembers in a completely random fashon. looked like an 8 year old threw it together.

I am also putting all new brake parts in it. everything will be new with the brakes except the frint drums and the back plates. everything else was horribly rusted and worn. the rear drums were 12 1/4"... very very worn by any standard.

I put a new master cylender in the truck also. its a dual resivoir master cylender for a 70 C20. it bolted up PERFECT.

Im replacing the emergency brake cables, but im having a terrible time finding replacment cables. i have a front cable from a 72 c20 that will work but i still need to make something for the rear cables.

Im putting a flatbed from our old 86 C30 that died earlier this year. it will work perfect, it all measures up and i am very happy about that.

Looks like it has a lot of potential.

There are postings on here somewhere that talk about places that will make up new cables. The last one I saw said that you need the original ends. Do a search under drivelines and you should find it.

Your truck looks liks it has pretty good sheet metal and it is a very hefty looking machine! It looks to me like you got yourself a great project.

You have a good start on your project. It should be a real great truck when you are finished!

Napa around here sells universal brake cables with various ends.Good quality and they look good.Nice project.

Love my '66. There is a bloke near to me who can make up cables to order, if you are really stuck

The truck looks in good shape. I was wondering if you could do take a couple of pictures for me? My '66 (like most others) is rusted out at the front of the rocker panel and at the lower hinge pillar.What If you could snap a few pictures under and behind the rocker and where the rear bottom of the front fender bolts to the cab. I have all the patch panels and I'm ready to weld. My problem is that I have no good picture reference to weld on the patch panels. I have the 1966 assembly manual, but the manual doesnt have drawing from under the truck and the lower rear of the front fenders. CAN YOU OR SOMEONE ELSE TAKE SOME PICTURES FOR ME...PLEASE!!!

rotorhead, i was wondering the same thing, its all very rusty under there and im wondering of i should put a mudflap in there.

and oh yeah, i have th truck uo and running. alls it needs is a paintjob and im all set
