i am looking at a 71 GMC long bed step side might be trading in burb for it but anyway what are the trouble spots for this truck besides rockers and cab conners its got a 350 with a top loader 4 speed

Trouble spots are in your head if you're trading in a sweet old 'burb for a 71 pickup.

'67 thru '72 trucks are all pretty much the same, and other than what you mentioned (can corners and rockers) I can't think of any common 'watch out for this' kinda things for those model years.

Heaters, maybe? Seems like the controls for those heaters get stuck or quit working after 30 years or so.

Look at the right front fender below the battery. They tend to rot there due to battery leakage.

These are great trucks. If the rockers are bad look a little closer & see if it doesn,t go up into the floor & the cab support brackets.

body mounts & inner fenders

Mine had rust holes in the floorboards. One from a leaky heater, other from leaky cowl. You might get under the truck and have a look see. This is where the floor board makes the bend up from flat. Its an easy fix as its going to have carpet or mat on top you can just slop on a surface fix. The other problem tho is if its on the corner, then its a bit more work to fix. Also the flooring has a bit of a bend to it going towards the outside of the truck so water will collect at the joint.

The cab mounts in the rear of the truck also can rot. Reach down the cab corners and feel towards the inside. Bet its paper thin there if not already holed out. If not, you are fine. But be careful as it could be jagged down there.

thanks for the help guys but when i put the truck on the lift found that the frame had been repaired by po and he di a sj on it so told him tomuch welding for my liking so no go
