I am about to install the fiberglass sound deadener with heavy felt backing on my truck. For a little extra I was going to install some more "roof patch" like I put in the doors.

Has anyone put the "roof patch" on the inside of the firewall? I am concerned about the heat on the firewall making it soft and or emitting some kind of fumes every time I run the truck.

I used "peel-n-seal" on my fire wall. I've had no problems at all. The stuff works real well. I'd say go for it.

There are lots of vendors on E-bay that sell something that is the same as Dynamat. I believe the stuff at Lowes/HomeDepo emits an odor when it gets warm. If you go the ebay route and decide to buy 'fatmat' or one of the other dynamat copies, which are cheaper and just as good, be sure and CHECK THE OTHER ITEMS FOR SALE by the vendor. I bought some and afterwards discoverd the vendor had the same amount of stuff for sale for $30 less, even with the different shipping charge.

That was my concern, too. I think it is a myth.

I could find no reference to someone actually having a smell after warming up in the archives. Just lots of conjecture.

I put 4 13" pieces on the firewall as a test. Big difference already as far as noise level. No noxious fumes.

I did a search on google regarding the odor when I bought mine and read the label on the stuff at either home depot or lowes, and both said something about the noxious fumes. Could have been hype though.

I'm putting the peel and stick stuff everywhere, on the floor pan, firewall, roof, behind the tank, inside the doors, etc... I'm also going to put some of the aluminum backed jute under the hood and on the firewall to reduce noise as much as possible inside my cab. I'm also using the aluminum backed jute with aluminum duct sealing tape to join the ends together and 3m sprayable adhesive on top of the peel and stick under the floor mat and in the roof. With two layers of insulation it should keep the cab quiet and keep the heat/cool inside the truck.

Anyone ever try Lizard Skin?

I used a product called Bituthane(might not be the correct spelling). It's used as a water/ice barrier on roofing and concrete applications. Picked up a 12 inch wide roll believe 50 ft.long for $35 at a roofing supply store. It's super sticky like tar on the application side and smooth on the other. It's a great insulator and will reseal itself when using hardware through it. It does peel a little at the outside corners when it gets hot like when applied to the firewall, but I haven't noticed a smell and put this in 3 or 4 years ago. My truck is a daily driver so I would noticed.

i sprayed 3M glue on my fiberglass sound deadener jute and put an extra coat of 'jute' material on (it got a 3M spray also). it adds about 3/8'' more to the piece.

I have peal and seal on both the inside of my cab - covers the entire floor on my 59, and inside the engine bay covering up some holes in the front inner fenders. I have driven this truck in 100+ degree Texas sun. No odors. Ever. I am putting the stuff down on the floor of my 72 truck next, and in the doors.

Good tip on the peel-n-seal. Sounds like a winner. I used one of the commercial-made firewall pads (rubber face, and heavy felt backing). It's good, but I probably coulda used something cheaper. I used the foil-faced heavy felt deadener on the rear of the cab and under the seat, the floor, and on the toe-board. It's kinda pricey too after you buy a good 3M spray adhesive and foil tape. I'm gonna try the peel-n-seal on the roof.

Next time I'm getting mine at HomeDepot!

As far as the aluminum faced jute, I bought three rolls on e-bay for what one roll would have cost me from a regular vendor.

Add me to the list... used peel-n-seal on entire cab. Also used double side aluminum bubble insulation as well, I found that it worked better on cab ceiling because it was not as thick and the new headliner is a b*@#h to install. I did not use bubble insul. on floor, instead used jute/Aluminum insulation glued to an outdoor carpet cut to size. (I did not want to glue directly to the floor).

Bought it all at Home Depot.

No smell ever....remember to seal any holes on firewall or floor and you'll have a much quieter and cooler/warmer cab.
