Hi, have a question on the types of oem sway bars used for the advance design years. I have two types, one bolts to the front axle using the original springs u-bolts, replacing the spring bumper with one that is part of the sway bar. The other bolts to the axle just inside the springs using about 5/16 inch u-bolts. One is late and the other is early. Changed around 51. Which one is the late one???

The second one that you describe sounds like the later model (8 bushings). I could post a phot this evening if you want one.

Here is a pretty bad photo that has a circle around each bushing (two of each of these - two sides - 8 bushings). I might also have a bushing set but I might not be able to look for this until tomorrow.

This site is amazing, I was just out staring at my mewly painted front sway bar and wondering how the bar was placed. I bought it as part of my resto and didn't know if bend went up or down. Come in to the computer and there is a picture. Thanks Tim. How hard is it to get new bushings for this application?

I don't have a sway bar on my '59. Are there good quality kits available?

Also how much of a difference does a sway bar make on a solid axle. I know it makes a huge difference in an IFS. Is it worth the time and money to upgrade?

Adam - don't know about aftermarket ones, but the OEM swaybar for the TF years came on the panels and burbs only, tho it may have been available as an option on the p/u - does make a definite diff w/ the panel bodys different weight distribution, but prolly wouldn't have as much effect on the p/u
