I'm wondering if anyone in the Houston area can tell me what they had to do to get a title for their old truck that didn't have one.

I bought my truck in Misssippi and it did not have a title. Apparently Mississippi did not have titles back in 1967. All I had to do was take in a bill of sale and they gave me a Texas title.
