Can anyone, with some degree of confidence, tell me if the bumper bolts on a 37 Chev half-ton are round head or oval head? If round head, are they high profile or low profile?

Also, has anyone seen the rear fenders attached with clutch head screws? My sources and I are leaning toward the use of clutch head.

Thanks in advance.

welcome to the forum Greg - lotsa pics in the gallery to check, and maybe even some 37 owners you could email to chat with about particulars

all the ones visible in the gallery are round head, but I don't know anything about different profiles of bumper bolts - and as far as I've seen, all rear fenders used the clutch heads up to '60 at least

you're welcome to send in some pics to the editor and the story on yer truck - we all love pictures grin

Sometimes you have the answers right under your nose. On page 109 of the Chevrolet 1937 Engineering Features there is a full front picture of the half-ton pickup clearly showing ROUND head bumper bolts.

Greg, Chevy used some really different bumper bolts, my old 36 pickup had a HUGE oval one in dead center of front bumper.

Check out this company- www.iandireproduction.com they have tons of repro hardware items for 30s Chevys, also Jim Carters.

Greg,

Welcome to the bolt...

As you'll see, with any question you're likely to get several differing opinions. Possibly, cause they're so many differing options.

I've always been under the impression the 36-46 body styles used oval bumper bolts. My experience with the ones I'm familiar with seeing indicate the same.

I just did a quick search of Chev's of the 40's catalog. They're indicating for a 37, an oval headed bolt with either a standard or Marstin nut was used as standard equipment.

What is a Marstin nut?

My 37 truck came with oval bolts. I believe them to be original as the truck had sat for about 40 years before I bought it. They had about the same amount of rust as everything else on the truck. I think the rear fender bolts are clutch head. I've seen a few 37's at shows and they had clutch head bolts. I'm using the oval bolts for the bumper & clutch head bolts for the rear fenders.
