Hello all,
Its been a real long time since I've logged in here.

I'm about to be getting back into a project that I bought 2 years ago. Its a '58 Chevy Apache 3600


The question I have is about the wheels.

They are 19.5" 8 lug jobs. They are single piece wheels....pretty skinny with some tall bias plys on them.

At any rate, my question is this: Are these wheels anything special? Like are they factory chevy wheels? I'm going to be replacing the front and rear axles as well as using smaller diameter wheels...
Are these 19.5" wheels worth anything if I would try and sell them?

Any info would be appreciated.

A lot of mini buses used the 19.5 rims. They should be easy to come by. Most lo-profile chevy big trucks used them also. Not hard to come by, not really worht any great amount of money. I have been told that they dont fit over the brake drums of some older style trucks. We have looked at changing the rim on our 3600's, to 16.5 or 16" ones. You can get them from any 3/4 ton chevy or gmc from 72 to 84. If you use them, you run acrosst clearance problems in the front axil on the tie rods. I'm going to just remove my orginal centers and reinstall them in a one pc 15" rim. I'm using rims from a impala.

They are pretty rare in single wheels. Frito - lay used a lot of them on step vans back in the early 70,s. Hub caps are hard to come by for them. I think they would have good value if you found someone that wants them.

They'd give you a bit more speed. If you go with smaller wheels you might have to gear up to go on the highway.

Not a worry....
I'm changing out the entire rearend to something more modern and a 5 lug pattern.

I'll also be changing out the front axle.

I'm basically converting this truck to a halfton.

I just asked these questions, because I had a fella over here the other day looking at my truck and he went on about how rare those wheels are, and how he'd never even seen a set before.

I never gave them much thought till then. SO I posted this thread on here to see how rare and valuable they are.

Seems like they aren't too awful valuable.

I didn't even know what single or split rim meant...I'm just going by what this guy said.
He said they were single piece and he'd never even seen ones that big be single piece? whatever that means.

Like I said, I'm taking them off and losing the 8 lug axles...and even taking out the 235 and replacing it with a v8.

I've got some on my 53 3800. I bought them years ago at a salvage yard, they were on an old bread truck. They have the clips and my factory hubcaps fit right on. I found some used Bridgestone radials to fit 8r19.5, I like the tall skinny look. These are expensive tires. Just my 2 cents. Marc in SD, where the snow is still melting.

Seems like I remember a few of the guys on the Napco Owners Group forum looking for these. They wanted them for the 1 ton Napco trucks. If you sell them, be sure to give them a heads up over there. The tires are a little hard to come by, but Pat Wilson(head honcho of the group) found a source for them.
