Need help w/clutch in my '61. The first couple of times I use it, it works fine & then it will not disengage. I've already replaced slave cylinder & bled several times. It still seems to act as if it has air in the line. Any help would be appreciated.

Make sure there arent any leaks at the rubber "flex" hose between the hard lines under the clutch master over to the bell housing. Sometimes this hose will also be weak from age and collapse partially as pressure is let off the clutch pedal. Don't bother looking for a replacement, there is none. You need to find a piece of ready made brake hose that has the 1/4" npt female fitting on each end to use as a substitute. Also check to make sure that the hard line going over the bell housing didn't get kinked when you were replacing the slave. HTH.

Theres two parts to that setup. you relaced the slave cyclinder but the other half is the master cyl.My sons truck did the same thing and it also would engage while he sat at an intersection with his foot on the clutch then the master cyclinder starts to bypass and the ruck would take off.But its a real easy fix just call NAPA auto parts and get a rebuild kit for the master cylinder.

The one in my '62 is a real pain too bleed. I had some luck using a hand pump oil can with a hose on the end. Filled it with brake fluid and opened the slave bleeder and pumped fluid up the line to the master.

Joe and Tony make very valid points, as I've just gone thru all of this myself in the last ten days. It is a B---ch to bleed that slave. One other problem I had, that could be related to your predicament, was a WEAK return spring that did not pull the clutch fork back firmly when pedal pressure was released, that left the clutch engaged a bit longer than it should have. Added another spring, problem solved.

The easiest way to bleed a slave cylinder (or a motorcycle brake) is to either open the bleeder and let gravity do it or crack the line at the master cylinder end. Air likes to travel upward.
