With the valves already set and all fluids up to level, It took only one squirt of gas in the carb to bring the fuel up to the carburator (I have a clear fuel filter in line just before the carb) and it ran sweet. I ran it for about 15 minutes but the temp came up too much, so I cut it off and put a 2 1/2 inch spacer between the pump and fan and ran it for about 20 more minutes at a fast idle, maybe about 1200 rpm. Would this be long enough to seat in the cam to lifters? Oil pressure was fine but temp was a little high. I haven't put the extensions on for my shroud yet, but I will before I crank it again. I also used a special assembly grease on the cam and lifters, so I hope everything seated okay. Anybody have any suggestions on more pre-run time for the cam?

I usually try for 20 to 30 minutes at 2,000 RPM for cam/lifter break in. The first few minutes are the most critical, as the cam needs lots of lubrication from the oil being thrown off the crankshaft. The high idle speed helps flood the cam in oil thrown off the crank and rods. It might be a good idea to re-run the valve adjustment before you button everything up for good. Jerry
