DISCLAIMER: EMBARRASSING QUESTION AHEAD... Is my '54 GMC 100 a Chevy truck or a GMC truck? I'm trying to order parts and some people tell me to only order GMC truck parts, while others say that Chevy truck parts will work just as well. I would prefer to order from a supplier who specializes in just old GMC truck parts --> any suggestions?

You won't find a supplier specializing in only GMC trucks. There are many interchangable parts though.

Your engine is different if it's stock and your dash is different. There are many other little differences which have been discussed recently. Hit the little "search" link under "post a new topic" and "post a reply" and search for "GMC differences".

hello and welcome to a fellow washington bolter! in my experience there are certain interchangeable parts, there will be gmc specific parts as well. as for exactly which ones i do not know. a more knowledgable source will come along, but until then welcome and i hope that you enjoy this page and all of its resources. try the "links" section to find parts suppliers, plenty to choose from. good luck!

welcome to the bolt scout. there are some items thet are the same, some similar and some not the same or similar. ask and you will find someone who will come along and give you an answer or a place to find that answer. tom

Your grill is different, your hood is different. Your motor is different. The radiator mount is different. The front crossmemer is different. Your rear axle might be different. The dash and guages are different. The front splash pan is different. The tailgate is different.

Those are the things that quickly come to mind.

For most things Chevy parts are the same, but it is helpful to have a good idea which pieces are different.

Other differences (from what is listed by others in the other thread):

GMC horn "button" on the steering wheel is different from the button on a '54 Chevrolet truck (an obvious difference).

The speaker for the GMC radio mounts in the headliner and not on top of the radio (and thus there is no problem mounting an after-market electric wiper motor in the '54 GMC with a stock GMC radio).

The '54 GMC Hydra-Matic gear/drive selector on the column is different.

One of the 1st things you need to do is put your detective hat on and determine what you have in your truck now. I bought my 54 GMC 100 truck 2+ years ago and the list of non original parts I've discovered keeps growing. My truck no longer has the original engine, transmission, and drive shaft, emblems. The point is before you assume it's all original verify it or you will end up ordering the wrong parts.
