For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 31 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 31 | I posted earlier on whether my truck was a 1/2 or 3/4 ton since the emblems are missing. When I bought it I was told it was a 1967 3/4. However, the 3rd number in my vin is a 1, which according to cetain web sites indicates it's a 1/2 ton. The axles are both 8 lug. All the pics I see show 6 lugs for c10's and 8 lugs for c20's. Also, the 5th number in my vin is an 8, which would indicate a 1968. However, there are no side marker lights, which indicate a 1967. Any help on what I really have? | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 424 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 424 | It's a 3/4 ton for sure. You're right about the lack of marker lights indicating it's a '67 but I'd go by the vin #. Someone could have bolted a '67 front end on it. As far as the vin indicating it's a 1/2 ton. maybe someone swapped cabs and everything. Who knows? But if you have 8 lugs front and rear, it's a 3/4 ton. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 36 Member | | Member Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 36 | Do you have any pictures? There are some other subtle differences between a 67 and 68.
I think there's a model number/VIN stamped on the frame somewere. (Perhaps on one of the side frame rails.) I've never really looked for mine. It might give you a clue if your cab or body has been swapped out.
I agree, As it sits right now it's a 3/4 ton. Cabs are commonly swapped out on these trucks. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 31 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 31 | I'll take some pics later and post them. '67 didn't have side marker lights.. some had side marker REFLECTORS, but not lights.
If the VIN dosent match the truck, could have been a cab swap.. or maybe somebody just did a VIN plate swap? For example, they had a good truck with no title, and a bad truck with a title, so they just swapped VIN plates?
an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.

Despite the VIN, since it looks like a 67 3/4 ton I guess thats how I'll do the paperwork at the DMV. It's a lost title vehicle. Thanks for all the info. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 507 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 507 | Hogrocket, what ever you do don't give the California DMV any more info on the truck than you have to. It tends to make the process way more difficult than it needs to be. If they don't ask don't tell. Been there done that.
