If there's overspray on the _engine_ , get some cardboard for masking and foo-foo cans of the color you want the engine , wash it , strip it , mask it and re-paint it in situ , you'll love it when it's all dressed again .
If there's overspray from the engine into the firewall etc. , get some rubbing compound and polish it all off the firewall / body as necessary .
use cheap natural sponges as they work the best and are cheap to boot , old towels from the thrift store so's you don't ruin your good polishing rags...

If you don't get it clean enough to suit you, you'll have the surfaces under the hood scuffed up well enough for a repaint without much more prep work.
