I've got an old 40 Chev pickup that I’m working on with my daughter. We removed the windshield and surprise, the bottom of the frame has some rot.

Question: What other year trucks have the same windshield as a 40?

I'm a fairly good journeyman welder and was thinking of finding a second windshield in a similar state of rust and grafting in some of the donor frame's upper frame into my frames lower section to replaced the rotted out portion. I think the shape of the top is slightly different then the bottom, but I think I could still make it work.

Any thoughts?

All the same up to & including 46, Knight 40 but in my experience all in the same condition too! Reproduction are readily available - Jim Carter etc

'39-'46 is the same. Can be hard to find in perfect shape. Have heard that some of the reproductions didn't fit well, but neither do some originals in the lower driver's side corner.

I've done exactly what you're thinking about doing many times. Cut the upper pieces off just past the end of the connecting v-bars, before the frame starts to curve too much. Flip the pieces side for side and use them on the bottom. Works good, but you must keep the pieces as short as possible. Long enough to get the welds past the end of the connecting v-bar, but not much farther.
