i will be putting new decals on my instrument gauges in the near future. i ran a search and the only advice i could find in getting the chrome bezel off was to pry it off with a very small screwdriver and then to put it back on the info said to lay it face down on a towell and gently tap it with a small hammer all the way around to "re-crimp" it in place. is there a better way to take it off and put it back on? me, a hammer of any size, and glass nearby does not sound healthy.

I'd pad the jaws of a pair of pliers and use them to re-crimp.
