The new stat didn't work out either. I removed it on Monday. It runs cold w/o one so I'm warming it up faster with a cardboard in front of the radiator. It must have a fissure in the head gasket. I don't think it's anything more than that. When finances permit we will have it opened up & see how everything else looks in there. I'm not pushing the sale of my Suburban too much because I need to have most of the kinks out of the truck for it to be my only driver. Although I need the $$$ from the sale to put a bit more into Jack :rolleyes: Anyone want a '98 3/4ton 4X4 with the 454 Vortec? Great for pulling stuff...$10,000. Buyer come pick it up & we'll have a carne asada & I'll pull out some rattlesnake meat that I harvested too  Joker, have you been over to the Chat garage? When I look, it's just BoltBot... Sabrina | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 146 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 146 | MexicoSab you might try running the thermostat with the insides removed. that way it has enough restriction to keep the water in the radiator to cool it, but it will let the water out as if it was at operating temp so it wont over heat the motor. we do that on our demolition derby cars so that it acts like normal, but theres nothing to get stuck and cause the motor to over heat. dont know all the details of the problem your having, but no thermostat is as bad as a stuck one. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 323 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2005 Posts: 323 | demo man- Thanks. On January 12th, in the evening, I started a thread called, Why does my truck hate thermostats? This last one was a 160 degree Prestone High Performance...
I'm going to see about removing the innards from the 180 degree one that I have & give it a try.

I got a little wax on the truck today before taking it out to pick up my daughter from school. It's sure nice to drive 'em. We'll be celebrating Alberto's 40th birthday (maybe someday he'll catch up to me) tomorrow by going out to dinner (mid-day dinner). I wish I could see that auction myself- which channel is covering it? I sure like that Canopy Express... Our trucks are worth high double digets too...to us Red Ryder is a fine looking truck any way you look at it Have a nice one & let those grand girls play in the truck all they want and kiss the fenders too. Alberto showed up sick & since it only happens about once a year, I give him the full treatment: chicken soup before dinner, variety of hot teas, VicksVapoRub, tequila...
I need to find out why I blew out a brand new headlight too...usually only have it out in the daylight but...maybe I'll go see our electrical guy (The Knife) and get some front blinkers while I'm at it...
