This is the same list I posted a few weeks ago, albeit a few additions. I've double-checked it against the current list of cars up for auction.
Today is Tuesday 1/17/2005 and the auction starts today. The auction is actually scheduled to start in about five minutes (3:00p CDT). AS the auction progresses, I'll post the selling prices for all the Stovebolt, El Camino and Chevy/GMC truck listings that follows.

If anyone is planning on watching the auction on Speed Channel, the schedule is as follows (all times CDT):
Tue 1/17/2005: 6:00pm - 10:00pm (repeat 10:00pm - 2:00am)
Wed 1/18/2005: 6:00pm - 10:00pm (repeat 10:00pm - 2:00am)
Thu 1/19/2005: 6:00pm - 10:00pm (repeat 10:00pm - 2:00am)
Fri 1/20/2005: 4:00pm - 11:00pm
Sat 1/21/2005: 1:00pm - 10:00pm
Sun 1/22/2005: 2:00pm - 6:00pm

NOTE: Selling prices include the buyer's premium assessed to all buyers (8% for on-site bidders, 10% for absentee bidders).

Isn't the steering wheel on the 57 GMC from an earlier year?

I'd say it is - at least it would be for Chev where it would be a 54-56 wheel - in 57 Chev shortened the column and added a 'dished' wheel, and I think GMC was the same, but they may have been a year behind Chevy [like w/ the 6V] - also I've never seen a multicolor wheel like that or door panels painted that way either, tho it mighta been a 'deluxe' feature

This is more difficult than I thought.
At the current time, I'm relying solely on the results that they're showing on TV. I'm actually rather disappointed that the results aren't going up on Barrett-Jackson's website either live or at the end of the auction day.

I got lucky on the GMC. It went across the block right before Speed Channel went on air and they mentioned it with the selling price.

The Corvair pickup was auctioned on-air, and it really is a beautiful piece of work. An odd duck, to be certain. The early El Camino went shortly after.

AS much as I dream of being one of these 'automotive lifestylers' (heard that term somewhere recently) that get to go to events like B-J for the purpose of buying/selling automotive jewels, I really thought this would be good for those of us working on a project or have completed projects to see what the market is for our 'bolts.
Right now the market would laugh at my 'bolt, considering it's been sitting in a yard in Alabama for a few years.... grin

[EDIT] Just after I post this, I find the results on B-J's website!!!!! D'oh!

For sure a strange day when a VW brings more than a Bently. My German Frau had a big smile on her face with that one. Lot of high prices being paid even for these "every man's" vehicles IMO.

Are you talking about the Beetle convertible or the Transporter Single-cab pickup?
What really got me was the Plymouth Belvidere that someone dropped a hemi in that went for 110K, but the real thing (same make/model with one year difference) that had a numbers-matching hemi with 30,000 original miles was only good for $68K. I don't get it.

I'm really interested in the Mobil Gas station with two Stovebolt fuel tankers, a neon red pegasus, two gas pumps from different eras and old Mobil display racks.

On the pink AD (lot 31). What is the gixmo located on the fuel line just ahead of the first carb. It looks like it has an adjusting knob on it.

You're looking at previous auctions (namely the '05 Scottsdale), but you're right. They are all absolutely gorgeous.

The results for this years auction (live as the cars are sold) are here:

GMC used the '54-'55 style steering wheel longer than Chebby, and the 2-tone steering wheel is correct for a GMC.

What about the Futurliner?

we still have time to put our money together and buy the "STOVEBOLT FUTURELINER". We can let each Stovebolter take a spin in her for one day out of the year "for the next 3.5 years" then start over.

ok its just a thought grin

Those Barrett-Jackson auctions are the worst thing that could have ever happened to the automotive restoration industry from the stand point of the enthusiast. Everytime some nimrod with an old beater sees one like his selling for $30,000, he immediately starts thinking his is worth that too. "If I could get it to start, it would be worth $30,000, so that almost straight, rusty fender is $9,000 to you buddy". These auctions drive restoration prices up for everyone.
Those guys bidding crazy at those auctions pay more for their shoes than most of us are willing to pay for something we want to drive around. They, often as not, park their prize in a warehouse until they can run it back through the auction at a profit.
As far as that $31,000 Corvair Rampside goes, you are right about the price. A couple of them, fully restored, just like that one, sold on Ebay this past year for less than $10,000. Like magic, now you'll start seeing them for $20-30.
As far as the quality of the Corvair. The problem with the Corvair is that it takes a mechanic to work on one and most wrench turners, just aren't up to it. I bought a '65 Corvair Corsa 180 Turbo a couple of months back from a mechanic. The car was in his shop with the turbo on the bench with broken turbine fins. He simply didn't know that the turbine shaft has left hand threads. The engine heads on it are junk, because the last machine shop to touch them had no idea that these heads have to live in the 300-400 degree range under normal driving conditions. 450-500 is overheating.
Sunday I picked up some big valve 140 heads that I may put on the turbo. They came with some other parts and a complete engine for a great price. The engine is complete from the headers to the two 3BBL Webers sitting on top. Someone had to have spent at least $5,000 to get this engine together and they left off some of the critical air cooling tin from under the cylinders.
I have always liked those Rampsides. A 2800 LB truck with a 4600 GVW. One man could load a refrigerator or an engine with a dolly by himself and the load is carried low to the ground.
Sorry about the long response, but I really like the Corvair.

I see it as a double-edged sword. Sure, the greedy asshats of the world are going to try to jack up the prices of motors, body panels, frames, etc, especially for older, hard-to-find hardware.

However, televised auctions like B-J also bring new people into the collector/antique car hobby. They may have an old 'Bolt (orMustang or Nova or whatever) in the garage (or barn or U-Stor-It) and decide to restore or rod it.

The uber-high prices at B-J are for the best of the best. The vast majority of the street rods you see up for auction are professionally built by the best minds & hands in the industry, not by Joe Gearhead.
Look at the '87 Porsche 911 turbo that went last night. I know for a fact that when it was new, that car was $90,000+. That was in 1987. It sold for $31,000 (before buyer's fee).
Hell, if I had $35K, that is a great deal in my opinion. I love Porsches and have since I was a teenager. For a sports car to drive around, race at soem SCCA club events and look cool sporting around town, that's a steal.
$100,000 for an amphibi-car or $40,000 for a VW Beetle convertible? No, those aren't good deals to me. Sure, they're immaculate restorations, but they couldn't be driven without fear of damaging the vehicle. That's not the purpose of a vehicle to me. Any car I get, I want to drive it. I don't want a 'trophy'.

well the thing that kills me about the auctions, is seeing the same kind of cars like the GTO's that i have taken and cut up to make race cars and demolition derby cars out of. eek

guess at the time it wasnt a big deal. they were as they say, a dime a dozen.

John-O - I know it's been said already, but thanks for the posting. I was away for the holidays and didn't realize the auction was on again. I'm new at all this and have a question which I hope doesn't sound to rediculous to the old timers but what does "No Reserve" actually mean when you are down there in the trenches actually bidding for one of these unbelievable rides?

means the highest bid gets it regardless of how high it is, as opposed to having a 'reserve' which is the lowest price the seller will accept - if the reserve isn't reached it's a no sale

Asshat is just a general derogitory term. I actually thought something stronger for that statement, but didn't want to push the boundaries of good taste too much. smile

Brother Bolters,
I would think we as Bolters are a cross-section of the fabric I like to call "the every man". Now I know that there are those who wear Farigamo and Think the 39 Talbot Coupe is "rubbish", but I don't think too many of those folks are called Stovebolters. I like to watch the B-J Auctions just like the other guy but then again I also like to watch professional football, and even though I would LOVE to run out on the field, I know thats not going to happen. I also know that me sitting in the TENT with a BIDDERS tag, most likely won't happen.
With that said I am very happy to watch and enjoy other peoples good fortune, and see some truly amazing rides. I am happy to watch the events on the TV then grab my wife and go for a ride in our "Not as perfect" Drivers, knowing that God has Blessed us, and that we are truly the richest people in town.

Editing the original post doesn't do it, so consider this a bump for all those that are interested in this thread.

You got it right Bill. That Jon Moss special edition truck went for 42k...The buyer got a brand new truly special edition truck with a bunch of go fas goodies on it for the price of a tarted up stock truck..AND because all the proceeds went to charity.. probably got a tas deductable receipt for making a charity donation. Can you say.. win win.
Some of the other prices were outrageous.. BTW the Futurliner comes up sometime tomorrow. They weren't sure exactly when.

i love to watch this and wonder if my restoration would ever the "quality" to ever bring that type of money . but the 69 camaro z2/8 unrestored w/ low miles that brought 200k was a museum piece for the man who bought it.

Had planned watching Friday night until the end and hate to admit this but after about three hours watching I was BORED STIFF. Seems like the same cars coming thru one after the other. Top heavy with 67 Vettes and 69 Camaros never did catch a Bolt coming thru last night. Becoming a Ho-Hum time. My two cents.
