Hi all, got my long awaited new cab yesterday. Had it shipped here from Ca to Ct. It is a rust free one owner cab. No rust is like gold here in the North Easst. I picked it up at the Central Transport truck terminal in a box truck I rented. They seemed in a real hurry to get it loaded before I could get a good look. Long story short, I has been dented from so many different directions I can't imagine it being one instance even if they droped it off the loading dock. Firewall pushed in both sides. One entire corner bashed in from beltline down topped off with dents from forks in three locations, not quite pericing the metal but very evidently from forks. Pass door caved in. Even the roof didn't escape. These are not small bumps. When I tried to bring this to the attention of the shipping clerk he wouldn't even get close enought to look but said that the truck must of been like that and the dents were rusty. I challenged him to get up in the truck and take a better look at the fresh digs in the metal but he only said go ahead and file a claim and I will just say the damage was old and rusty. Some of this I didn't see until I got it home and took off the shrink wrap. I really bothers me that a 55 year old cab made it this long unscathed only to be the victim of what looks like needless abuse. I guess I will join the 21st century and buy a digital camera today to get pictures to file with my claim. I have probably left myself open now to claims that I did the damage myself after it left the terminal. Some of it I did not see. This is still a decent cab for us folks in the rust belt, I will just need to do lots of body work and it will never be the pristine original it once was. Anyone have advice on dealing with trucking company claims? I already know I should of had them unload it, unwraped it and take pictures there, but they did not seem all that co-operative.

Thanks

File the claim.I bet it would help if you got a writen statement from the person you bought it from stating the condition it was in before it was shipped.

Sh!tt! business,
Take pictures of fresh damage without rust and ask for pictures before shipping from the guy you bought it from.
Good luck

Grant,

All I can say is "too bad". It is disappointing, but make the best of it. Dealing with claims issues requires the patience of a saint! Good luck.

I had a transmission shipped to me via Central - it came through fine. Sorry to hear about your cab, it seems like all shipping companies decide now and then to shred something. I've had a few UPS and FedEx boxes show up demolished, too.

I consider myself as easy going as they come but dang if I would'nt make thier lives miserable.I woud aggravate them to the extent that they would at least reimburse me for part if not all the damage that I could prove. It might cost me more to get satisfaction than it would to repair it myself but its the princible.I am madder than an old red hen and it aint even my cab!!!!

that is unfortunate, i have heard similar stories before. it is irritating because the only recourse that you have is to go through their appeals system which will no doubt be set up to make people give up. i would take it for what it is and fix the damage. on the bright side you still have a rustless cab, i would rather have that than a straight rusty one. sorry to hear about that. i would write a nasty letter or two. good luck friend.

Is it a big company? I don't think I want to do business with them. We can hit them where it really hurts them, by taking our business elsewhere.

Thanks for the support and good wishes. I have orderd a digital camera and will take pictures and file a claim. I did note on the papers I signed that the cab was damaged. I didn't want to leave it there as I have a few dollars sunk into it and will fix it. I think I will replace the door. I have several but have never seen one this solid before, not even in my other Ca. truck. I think I can push the firewall back with a port-power. The hard part will be the corner. It is pushed in on the back so bad it is creased/folded over just under the belt line. I think I will drill the spots off the skin to door pillar and straighten or replace the door pillar, straighten or replace the skin and weld back on to the pillar. Not sure how hard it will be to straighten the round corner, may be better to weld a new corner in plus a foot of so above it.

Thanks

We bought one from Bakersfield Ca and the trucking company backed into the cab.
