I read on one of the tech pages that someone used Nissan Hardbody front brake rotors and hubs and calipers on their 48-55 Chev PU, and retained the stock 6 lug. I believe that he said the hardest (read expensive) part was the spacer "sleeve" that was required to adapt the Nissan hub to the Chevy spindle.
I was wondering if anyone here has used this set-up, and if their were any pro's or con's to this set up. Thanks in Advance, GarryK

Gary are you running original wheels (split rims)? If not there is a place called Buffalo engineering (I think). That makes brakets for hanging Chevy (full size car) truck calipers and then you use chevy 4x4 rotors on the original hubs.

If you go to www.inliners.org you should see Buffalos ad.

Hope this helps

Hey Brian, Thanks for the lead. I'll look more into it soon. I have been running Chevy PU ralley rims since 1985 (got a set off a brand new truck a guy was lifting and going to custom rims) I have since replaced the wide beauty rings with a set of ribbed ss beauty rings from a early to mid 40's Buick, and have a Chevy emblem over the "4x4" on the center caps. I used to have 235x75x15's for many years till they started to get dry rot. Last year I got a set of take-off (yes again..) 225x70x15's from a Cop car (Wrecked shortly after new). Very nice tires and the price was just right. So Disc brakes will work just fine for my rims. Besides the Radials are so much better than my old 6.50 16 bias ply tires. But I do need to do the tapered roller bearing upgrade soon, and get some decent shocks put all the way around. Thanks again, Garry

There is now a complete kit to convert to 6 lug disks. I just bought one on ebay.

Here's a detailed web site on installation

I guess it probably uses the 4X4 rotors Brian mentioned. I'm sure it would be cheaper to scrounge your own parts and buy the bracket kit.

Buffalo Engineering doesn't have a site yet but on their future site I noticed another interesting item; an adapter to run a 350 tranny behind a 248.

Hey cletis that isn't a bad price to pay for a kit. I never wanted to buy the kit because of Shipping but $25.00 soundlike a steal on the shipping of 2 rotors, 2 calipers and all the hardware!

There was another one listed this morning.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33566&item=2465884442

If you have a 55-59, he listed a power booster and master cylinder this afternoon.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33566&item=2463192540

I called this morning to see if they would be listing one for my '54 anytime soon and he said the ones they list on ebay are returns and they never know.

I went ahead and bought the booster and roller bearings and he gave me a little discount for buying it all at once.

OK Guys and Gals,
I just got an e-mail from the seller/company that makes this kit, and they told me that it fits only 49 and up. I always thought the cut-off was 47 1/2 not 49. Am I missing something????
I would probably buy this kit right now, but he said it won't work on my 48, only on 49 and up. In the 20+ years I've owned my Chevy, I've never heard of this change between 48 and 49. Can someone please enlighten me?????
Thanks in advance, Garry

If you're talking about the disc brake conversion, it'll work back to '37.

I believe that the pre 49 models have diferent size holes for mounting the backing plate (or braket for the Disc kit). I think the earlier years are smaller 5/16th comes to mind but don't quote me on it.

Cletis I just bought that other Kit!

Thanks

Got my kit in. The rotors are made in china jobs. The calipers are GM. Looks like it has everything needed including new studs. The master cylinder kit has the proportioner pre-mounted. Looks like a good deal.

Well it looks like they have plenty of these kits as they keep relisting one after another. Oh well still a good price. Cletis how many boxes did your Disc kit come in? I just got notification that my order is on its way. 2 boxes just shy of 80 lbs total. California to MICH 80 LBS for $25.00 Can you sweet deal!

Mine was 3 boxes, over 100 lbs. I got the power master cyclinder and roller bearings too.

I knocked the drums off the old hubs and cleaned them yesterday. Got my spindles and steering parts blasted. I still need to blast my axle. Looks like the new parts will fit nicely together.

Of course I'm still a long way from home. I'm doing a "ground-up".
