I have a 49 3100 with a 216 with 3 on the tree.
I need to replace the clutch. Is it easier to pull the engine and tranny and do it out of the truck. Just wondering what is the best way to do it? Thanks any info would be appreciated.

I think your best method would be to remove the
transmission only, unless you want to clean and
paint the engine and compartment. By the time you remove the hood, unhook engine mounts, exhaust, radiator and all the wiring, hook-up a
chain hoist and have the engine and tranny on the
ground, you can have the clutch installed and be
done. Just be sure you don't put the clutch plate in backwords and have an allignment shaft
or an old front main drive out of another tranny
handy. If it has a brass pilot bushing in the back of the crank, instead of a bearing, put a
dab of lube grease in the bushing. Good luck,
you shouldn't have any problems. Also check the
flywheel for minor cracks in the surface where
the clutch plate rubs. It may need turned.
