#19797 07/05/2004 12:12 PM | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 177 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 177 | Ok replaced the clutch in my Dodge 3.9L V6 New Process 5 speed. Had the flywheel turned and put a new throw out bear installed that isn't exactly the same as the original but the parts guy said it would "work". Put the whole thing back together and now the truck wont move. The tranny shifts nice and easy. The clutch seems to be disengaged from the flywheel all the time. The clutch pedal is very soft and doesn't feel like there is hardly anything there. The dumb mechanic says there was too much meat taken off the flywheel. I think it's the throw out bearing. Any ideas?

You say the truck won't move ,clutch disengaged all the time, don't have the disc in backwards?The truck has a hydraulic clutch?An external slave cylinder or the internal type like on Jeeps?And you're absolutley sure the plate and disc match the parts you removed? Gotta be the bearing then I guess. | | |

Gosh I knew I shouldah done this myself people allways promise me the world and all I ever get is the finger. I'm gonna get the right bearing today and tell the mechanic to PUT IT ON! If it still doesn't work I'm towing it home. Anybody else?

If so, make sure it didn't have retainer clips that hold the diaphram springs in the compressed position (for easier install) that need to be removed once you have it bolted to the flywheel.
You can tell it has the clips when you install the Pressure Plate and the bolts tighten up quickly instead of the 6-pt star routine of tighening a turn, go to the next, tighten a turn, go to the next routine.
You did keep your old throwout bearing right? DONT EVER THROW ANYTHING AWAY!
