I see a few postings about the expense involved in fixing the windshield on your Art Deco trucks, specifically the window framing on the windshield. Is this because it cranks out and most of them are destroyed or is it just an item hard to find? Does anyone have a diagram they can send me showing removal and installation?

The windshield frames seem to go for about $150 to $200 on eBay.

I've only seen one "bad" windshield frame, and it's the one in my '46 1/2 ton right in the center bottom.. not sure if that's where all of them go bad or not.

Looks like water collected in the bottom of the frame and it just rusted. I suspect the pressure of the crank pushing out helps "blow out" the bottom of the frame.

As far as why they sell for a decent amount, i'd guess it's because it's one of those "must have" items. They're not any more rare than the trucks themselves.. and the windshield frame from as far back as 1939 will work in a '41 thru '46 truck.

an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.

You can buy an aftermarket replacement for about 300.00, and I don't think it includes the v-bracket that goes in the middle. They always seem to rot at the bottom corners. There a tech article about them here at the stovebolt.

I found mine at a scrap dealer.the truck had been sitting for 30 years. The w/s frame and mech.were in excellent condtion.I think sitting in the woods saved it from the elements. It was a great deal for $50.00.

Bowtie Bits has Complete assembled units with glass and rubber for about 550 bucks. Lots of cash for sure, but the frame @ 300 plus about 6 sheets of glass( grin :p ) and your labor will come to that.
