Hey guys,
What are the chances of a "350 bored 60 over" running hot?

My uneducated guess is that it is not cubic inch dependent. Either the motor is working too hard, or the cooling system is on vacation.

The motor is not in a vehicle (yet)!
A guy I know has it in his shop and mentioned the he would sell it if I was interested. I just dont want a motor that I would have a hard time cooling.

If you know the guy, and you trust his word on the engine, it should be fine. On a properly functioning motor, cooling shouldn't be much of an issue. I wonder if the .060 over was a hot rod attempt or a effort to save a damaged cylinder.

I bought a 350 .60 over and have it in my 66 half ton. It does not run hot at all. No hotter than the 283 it replaced.

Unless you know this guy very well I would walk away from a 350 which has been bored .060. To me that shows that the engine has already had at least two rebuilds or that it really was run hard prior to this to need a .060 bore to clean up the cylinders. I do not know how much the guy is asking but running 350 small blocks can be found almost anywhere and you can always get a rebuilt one from a reputable rebuilder for about $1,000 plus core charge.
As to the cooling issue it would depend on what you going to put it in. A 350 in an Advance design truck could have cooling issues unless the radiator is upgraded and/or fans are added. HD radiators for AD series trucks start at about $350 plus shipping. Task force trucks came with small blocks so their original cooling systems should be able to handle a 350 unless you are really tricking it out. There are several radiator options you can use for a task force series truck as space constraints are not as bad as AD series trucks.

As I think about it, cubic inches probably is directly related to BTU's...how much heat a engine will put out. I know what you meant, and as Cabover testified, it's probably a moot point.

dude walk away it has been raged out if it is 60 over

my dad had a 327 bored .060 over and never ran hot once....probably anything need a good cooling system.

I used to have a 327 bored 90 over, never had a problem.

Are you sure it's a 350? I've heard thar boring a small block 400 .60 over can cause it to run hot because the cylinder walls were already too thin.
If it's actually a 350, and it's only been bored a total of .60 over then it should be fine. But I would still be apprehensive.

Many 350s bored 60 over around here.Comes out to about 355,cu.in.I had one in a 31 Fo-d coupe,and it ran just great.In fact it is still running great.You shouldnt have any problem with overheating.
