Been looking at a 2001 GMC 1500 Z71 SLE really fancy with heavy duty towing package only 70,000 miles and really clean.
Question is the guy tells me it has a 5.3L. motor is this true and what displacement is this?
Will this motor tow allright? Ben

Doeas anybody have this engine 5.3 and tried using it for towing?

Towed both my boats 2600lbs and 3200 lbs, also towed home my 3600. No problem at all. I traded it in on a new one a few weeks ago. It had 96k trouble free miles. Got the same motor in my new one. I will tell you one thing, on cold mornings when you start it up it sounds like theres marbles in the crankcase for the first 20 seconds.

Patton My Machine | | | | | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 738 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 738 | oh yeah i forgot...my dads tahoe has 70,000 on it and is still the same as day 1. my neighbor has like 40,000 and has no trouble. the only thing that i would suggest if you want to work it hard and tow heavy loads the 6.0 might be a god choice. but for everyday use and light suty working the 5.3 is a solid unit.

Joker if I got that Stude my Dad would want to drive it all the time. Studebakers was and still is his all time favorites. You and the misses have a good one and soooo glad to see you up and around.
