I would like to change the gear ratio in my 41 3/4 ton pickup. I need to do this as inexpensively as possible. I want to go to a 373:1. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

On the 48 and later truck, you can get a 4.10 gear center carrier from a 64-72 10 bolt (HO52) and swap it in. Nothing that I know of is available for the earlier trucks. One solution is to swap the differential, but the newer models are wider.

A carrier from a 64-72 10 bolt diff will work on trucks as far back as 1946.

Personally, I'd just put a different axle in. Something from a 1953 or newer ('cause brake parts are MUCH easier to find).
