Yeah, they use plenty of salt on the roads in these parts, can you tell. I think this truck sat outside with a hole in the drivers side of the bed floor. Most of the rot is concentrated on that point. The bed, which was removed and disasembled for me, is in pretty good shape except for the wood and the drivers side rear fender.
I will continue to post as I move along. Very slowly now due to the cold weather.

I was very dissapointed when I discovered the rot. But I got through it with the help from people on this site. From advice to the actual metal I needed, it was a team effort!
I just can't wait to drive it.

Actually I am looking forward to putting the axles back on this weekend,(atleast the rear)with new shocks and new brakes and wheel cylinders. (all painted black of course) If not for nothing else it will create more space in the garage for me to work. I keep trippin over stuff.

This was my first repair of this type on a truck. I have done this type of repair on trailers and equipment before. I am grateful at seeing your photos. I find that there is very little information out there on this subject. It is all just mild steel and that is the friendliest material to weld together, if you know what I mean. I have seen some trucks with potential, junked because of some small frame rot, and that is sad. | | |
