Hello bolters,
I have a 53 3/4t which had a timber tray (what was left of it). Where did they put the spare tyre? i can buy an aftermarket tyre holder which i can fit between the chasis rails after my diff, although the chasis has been cut short. Was there an origional tyre holder?

Hy again Brendon, behind the diff. is where the factory put the spare tires er I mean tyres. So if your not dead set on keeping it stock, buy your tyre carrier and mount it. Keep asking questions so we can check on your progress.

Hi 3B, I'd like the origional carrier, but getting parts down here is difficult. I'll go with the aftermarket one. This aloso leaves the problem of the exhaust. I'll always be asking questions, that how you find out stuff. I'm getting some pictures on paper put on disc from when i picked it up. The rest are on the link.

Hy Brendon, I just checked out your pictures, they are great, and they FREAKED me out, I can't believe I forgot about it being right hand drive!!! keep up the good work. What did you decide to do about the running gear?

I'm going to go the 350 chev with turbo 400 gearbox. i've seen some pictures from fellow bolter on how he mounted the motor and gearbox. The steering box move seemed a worry. (getting it past dept of trans. may be difficult). I'm right hand drive though, so it may not be the same for me. I have a mate who can get me an old 350 bock and heads which i intend to mount before i buy the real thing. I can get a new tailshaft made up. I'm keen to paint at the moment though.

Hy again Brendon, just a thought on the running gear, turbo 400s have a large output shaft when compared to a turbo 350, it will require a yoke which can be hard to find even over here, just a word of warning, we want you to avoid rude surprises.

Thanks 3B, as i said,i'm an electrician not a mechanic. I'll see what our Holdens came out with. turbo 400 is a common name here. Most likely used on the old 308 V8 holdens. But still good to know. I will need to investigate that one.
