You'll need to get it recored with a unit that will stand at least 15 pounds of pressure. Ditto on the heater core. The original core won't stand that kind of strain!

See below: The following is from their site: Frequently Asked Questions Should I use an external transmission cooler in conjunction with the oil cooler supplied in the radiator? Answer: Unless operating in an environment where the outside temperature is below 0°F, you should cap off the radiator cooler line openings and run your cooler lines directly to a new cooler mounted in front of the radiator. I"ve been searching for an answer conserning oil cooler applications specificly when the exsisting rad has no trans cooling ability and the answer was right there!!! I plan on towing a 20 ft boat behind my 51 chevy pickup on occasion. I"m still going to install a trans fluid temp sensor so I can see what going on down there. | | |

Since I don't think you'll be towing a boat in below zero weather, I think you'd be just fine with an external cooler. I have been told by tranny guys that you can't put a big enough cooler on automatic trannies, and that in hot weather, the cooler you keep the tranny, the healthier it'll be. Especially if you're towing.
I would attach the biggest cooler you can buy right to the front of your radiator, and then either run soft lines or bend up hard lines around the radiator to the cooler. Stock coolers inside radiators are not good enough for towing.
