I haven,t put the coil on yet & went ahead & changed the oil. While pouring oil in the valve cover oil fill, I look over & oil is pouring out of the holes that the coil mounts to. Even after 55 years I didn,t know it would do that.

Never mind, buff it in place.
A good day is when you can get out of bed, remember your name, learn something--anything during the day, and still remember to go to the bathroom BEFORE going to bed that night.

| | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 153 Member | | Member Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 153 | thanks guys, i didn't know the coil would leak oil nor did i know the throttle pivot would leak antifreeze. mines broken off and i was gonna try to replace it, but wasn't sure if it was pressed in or screwed in, but at least i know to drain the block now.

There is a assembly note dealing with the coil bracket bolts...it says "dip thread end of bolts in sealing compound before installing coil". Cute! I'm putting another sm420 tranny in my truck. I always wondered why mine leaked gear lube in the bottom of the front. I found out that the threaded bottom mounting holes goes all the way through the housing. You gotta put some kind of sealant on the bottom two mounting bolts or it will always leak. | | |
