It's an 18" split rim on a '49 chevy 1 ton. And would anyone know what make, model, brand of modern wheels would fit this pattern? and around the rear drum? I would like to stay with a taller wheel. They will work too...be aware of one thing: the 19.5 " rims came in both 8-lug and 10-lug bolt patterns...
The 8-lug variety have four vent holes; the 10-lug have five vent holes.
Don't know what you'd "call" them; most guys refer to these as "Budd" wheels or pressed-steel as opposed to the cast-spoke/demountable-rim found on trucks running 20" or 22" rubber...
Check on the availability of 7.00 or 8.00 x 19.5 tires in your area...they used to be a popular fleet tire...
Gen-you-whine 18" truck tires are available from Universal and Coker, at not too much more than you'd pay for new Gooyear/Goodrich/Firestone if you could find them...

As fate would have, I was walking across the street to get lunch today and passed a retired "hi-rail" service truck (a pick-up with those funky rims with the offset to correspond to 4'8-1/2" "standard gauge" track). Truck is an '88 -'98 Chevy 2500 with eight-lug wheels and was wearing Goodyear 8R19.5 radial tires...so 19.5 rubber is alive and well, if you scare-up a set of rims...

The 19.5 inch seem to be the best option (short of replacing the axle) but I haven't found a set of 6 anywhere around here. I've been told that they were/are pretty common on Chevy delivery vans, too. I've been able to find the 19.5 inch rims but they're all the 10 bolt pattern; not the 8-bolt 6.5-inch that are on my truck.
I did have my tires dismounted about a month ago and the tire shop said they seemed to be in good shape and I should be able to put them back on. I'm planning to have them sandblasted and repainted (as long as they look OK once the rust is off them) in the near future.
I was able to find the 18 inch tires at a local tire shop for around $150 each (tire, tube and flap) plus mounting and balancing (around $15 each). From what I've seen for 19.5 inch rims and tires for sale, that's not too bad a price and I don't have to do much chasing around to get the stuff I need.
Let me know if you find something cheaper or easier. I'm interested in your solution. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 2,773 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 2,773 | Replacement rims for the heavy one ton is a tough one. One bolter was looking about a year ago. Was told that rims from a UPS truck would work, so he went to a yard that was cutting up UPS trucks. They wouldn't sell anything, never found out why. Suspect they had a contract with UPS that didn't allow them to sell anything off the trucks. He ended up putting the rims and tires back on.
