"Any idea what and when this was?"
looks like a truck, Chevrolet if you believe yer eyes - pretty recent find, I'd guess! grin

it's a CDN made AD Chevy
0=1950
13=1/2t
14=p/u
21027=sequence number

Ran in to it this afternoon. I like it, all there just rusty, trying to locate the owner might be difficult, cute little trucky, might buy it.
Thanks for your info. AD= Advanced Design ? Found two apache trucks in the same yard, but my camera plays stupid, check once no pictures, check later some pictures in memory. Maybe I shouldn't drop it that often smile
Thanks

Richard

While I'm bugging you, are Canadian Vin numbers different from US Vin numbers? I tried the Vin cruncher and it came back with unknown, Canadian Chevrolet Apache '58, like the one on the gallery main page, is there a Canadian cruncher ?
Thanks again

Richard

yes on AD, next series is TF - "Apache" just means light truck, 1/2, 3/4, 1T and was used in marketing from 58 to 62 or 66 - bigger trucks those years were Viking's and Spartan's

yes CDN numbers are different
no the cruncher doesn't understand them
no there's no CDN cruncher, but Scotts catalogs have some info on CDN numbering in the back

the 55-7's still used the 13xx series designation, which changed in 58 to the US series style
58-9 Chev #'s are this pattern:
1st # =year [8 or 9]
2nd,3rd#'s = series [31short 1/2 or 32long 1/2, 36 3/4T]
4th, 5th = model [04 p/u, 05 panel]
6th = # of cyl [6 or 8]
remainder= sequence #
so 831046xxxxx would be a 58 short 1/2T 6 cyl

my camera has started refusing to wake up - doesn't take the first picture half the time so I just take the first picture twice grin

Thanks Bill, great, big help, I'm from Europe and only Chevy truck fan since two month's or so, lots to learn and most of all English smile
I found a 931046 = a 59 shortbox 1/2 ton pickup with 6 cylinder engine. Simple, you just got to know where to go, I'll save your post smile

Thank you

Richard

Richard,

Just to let you know, that one is also Harry's truck. I think he told me once that it is a 1951 but that's all a distant memory now. I helped him move that one over there about 18 years ago.

It's a shame but it will probably rust to death there before anything is done with it.

Richard,
here is a decoder site for the Canadian GMC trucks. I think you will find the encoding very similar except where the Chev model number starts with "1", the GMC model number starts wirh "9".
