This is my first post and will post pics soon of my new 66 c-10 fleetside (my uncles.... pretty good story)

Just got the truck home and put a registration sticker on it, but when peeled off all the old stickers I noticed the plate said 63 engraved(on the year section) Plate is a black CA plate....What does the 63 refer to. all other paperwork has truck as a 66.

Any info would be appreciated....Plus I'll have a ton more questions....Looking forward to the restoration

It could have been a plate from a previous truck.

They didn't change the plates every year, so a 66 could have a 63 plate with a 66 year sticker from new.

You are lucky that your truck still has the original plate, The 63 plate does not qualify under the California DMV YOM rules except (any old plate still on the road is only valid because it has been continuously registered to the same vehicle since it was originally issued. ) Many collectors choose to pay the extra fee to have the original style plates on their trucks and cars. If the tag was salvageble you can leave it on the plate and purchase a tag holder to attach the new tags. If you decide that you would like an original tag, search them out on ebay, they come up once in a while. You can also request information on an old license plate using this plate search Earlier year plates can cost up to $600 for a set of "clear" plates. Welcome aboard and remember pictures are worth a pat on the back! grin .....g

Plate restoration This guy has a good reputation for plate restoration. There are many others out there, including those who will make you another plate in plastic. I have also found a guy who will make a plate out of aluminum too. grin .......g
