And 2. I don't think my girl can park it.
So any ideas

Then you don't have to hack up the truck. Something like this: Steering assist kit tech article If I was doing it I might consider doing it that way.

Your 39 has the same high friction antique box as my 37.It now steers with the same effort as an AD truck, even with 215 section radials, its good enough.I have to thank Barry weeks who told me the boxes would swap easily.

I just checked 4onthefloor suggestion ,,,, I had one of those ram assist setup on my LandCruiser , it worked good off road , in that there was no steering kick back , and was easy to drive on the road ( 11" Cooper tyres ) ,, but parking was still hard ,,,,, the rig didn't have enough power assist . A power box is the story ,,,, may have to box the chassis some .

They get in the way unless they are front mount with a lot of U joints and stuff. For a drag link type setup, some of the roadster guys that want cowl steering are going with a Dodge 70's type box that can be mounted on it's side. It's aluminum too. LOL. I've seen a power steering rack that was rear mounted, but was mounted to the axle with a splined joint for suspension purposes. The alignment and the ackerman worked out, but it looked too much like it came from your area (Mickey Mouse)LOL. Just a couple of ideas for you to ponder. Regards Dennis

You might try a suicide knob on the steering wheel.

Without reading the entire article again, I kind of remember the author being a little uncertain about one of the mounting bolts. I seems that only two of the bolts hook to the frame and an "ear" has to be welded to the frame for the third bolt to go through. I don't think it would be that big of a deal to make a little better mounting system. I also remember Phat saying something about when you turn hard right the inside of the tire will rub on the steering box, but with a little planning, this could be handled. BTW, I recently aquired a 248 GMC engine out of a 51 GMC 350 truck. I want to use this engine in my 51 Chevy pickup after making the necessary adjustments for the GMC's longer length. Are there any peculuarities I need to be aware of regarding the 248. Good to have you back, come again when you can stay longer

248 likes a lotta cam and not as mush lift as the 270/302

I could e-mail you an article from a 1994 magazine that describes the installation on a Fxxd pickup, but according to the fellow who sent Jenny and I the article, the procedure is the same for a Chevy or GMC. You need to be able to open MS Word to read it. Also, we are interested in your disc brake conversion in the tech articles section. But what is a Toyota "hardbody"? I kind of remember the name from their advertising...
