There are a lot of posts here about this; use the search function under the NEw Post icon. I bought a 3.90 for this very reason for my 47. I never used it though, as I'm switching to a more modern axle.

There are two search links - one to search the forums and one to search the web site. Use the forum search. The forum search is below the "post new topic" and "post new reply" graphics near (but not at the top) of the page.

there's been discussion about putting the TF years rear gear in the AD - the axles are the same and maybe the punkin is interchangeable, but I think the only thing that has to be modified to use the whole axle is the spring mount
oldblu49 discussed it - search for his posts

I tried both search links...none of my "rear end" wording seemed to bring anything up. I'll try it again.

Basically, I realize the exterior modifications that are required, but I wasn't sure if there were any internal issues other than exposed inner axle bearings.

R.F. you can use the center section from a TF axle in the AD housing. This way you can keep the existing e-brake linkage and won't have to worry about spring mounts. BUT you will have to set your pinion angle and then weld the pivot pins on your spring mounts so they no longer rotate or twist. I have not yet done this but have the necessary parts courtesy of Bill at red58.

Go to the "Engine & Driveline Shop" Forum and type in "3.38" in the search.
