I assume I will need to replace the speedometer gauge itself to get things to work right or is there any other angle I should consider before I replace the gauge?
Anyone have a working speedometer gauge they can send me for a cheap price ?? It's for a '52 half ton. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 1,820 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 1,820 | I had a problem with mine some years back. It began to give me obvious incorrect indications of the speed I was traveling. I pulled the cable and cleaned it and lubricated it. It did not help so I took it to a speedometer shop and had it rebuilt. Since than, everything has been fine. You might need to have it rebuilt. Hope this helps! Joe

If no movement, get one at a swap meet or try e-bay. If the needle does move, put the cable back in the tranny, amking sure it is engaging the nylon gear. Leave the cable unhooked from the back of the speedo. Then go down the road and observe if the cable itself is moving - a passenger would be helpfull to avoid accidents. If cable still not moving, then the nylon/plastic gear or worse yet, the internal gear may need replacing. The plastic gears can still be obtained, the internal gear may have to be replaced with a used one.
