Can someone shed some light on these. My 41 pickup has some braces attached on the outside of the rear fenders. I have noticed other trucks with them on.

Where they a recall brace that was added on at the dealers? Any info would be great!

Thanks
Rob

Can you post a picture of yours? I have some on my 46 and I would be interested. I'll try and dig up a closeup and post it.

'39-'40-'41 PU's had a single brace towards the rear of the wheel opening, at about the 2:00 position. These fenders would flex enough (especially on rough dirt roads) that they would crack at the top of the wheel opening (about 12:00) or crack at the rear of the fender below the brace and get worse and worse until the lower rear part of the fender would fall right off.

'42-'46 has 2 braces as an improvement. One is at the top of the wheel opening, the other is at the lower rear part of the fender. All that was visible from the outside on any year was a couple small screw heads where the upper braces attached to the sheetmetal of the fender. Many farmers would weld a piece of strap metal across the rear part of the fender and attach it to the boxside or stake pocket to sturdy things up and make the fenders last longer on rough roads. I would guess close to half the time you see an old '37-'46-ish PU sitting in the junkyard or something, it will have some sort of crap welded and/or bolted to the rear fenders or whatever is left of the rear fenders.
