has anyone installed the front sway bar (jim carters) on the 47-55 AD 1/2 ton. mine came with no instructions and i am clueless as to how it bolts on. well i am pretty clueless about most things so this should be no surprise. Anyway i did a search and did not find what i was looking for (instructions) so i am posting here.

Mine came with no instructions either..Just call them, and they will email them...Don't get real excited though, the instructions are not real well done..Good luck, it's best to lay out all the parts first to figure out how it works..It'll be OK..Hardest part is getting the nuts off the u-bolts..Steve

I have an OE sway bar (book calls it a stabilizer) I think I have the exploded view in my factory assy. manual. Would you like me to mail a copy if I have it? You may want to call Jim Carter to see if the one they'll send is from assy manual too.

i will give jim carters a call, hopefully this week if time allows. I have the assembly manual but the diagram of the original bar looks like it may be installed somewhat differently than the jim carter model. I thought that I might get to the sway bar this weekend, but with my three college kids home for the summer plus my two high schoolers, the time just wasn't cooperating with my old truck plans. I hope to install the drag link today, and will take another look at the sway bar parts, perhaps I can make sense of them.

So far, I think there could be at least four possible sway bars that have creeped into this discussion.

Used sway bars from a 47-55 AD truck (Jim Carter sells them).
1. 1947.5-1950/51
2. 1951-1955.5

A sway bar from an automobile (or later truck with a front swing-arm?):
3. Gord's link above to an earlier thread on this topic shows a posting of a non-AD sway bar - might be same vintage automobile?

An aftermarket sway bar
4. Jim Carter, HP154, SWAY BAR ASMBLY 47-55 1ST 1/2 TON, for example

My guess is that each of the four assemblies have a different installation configuration. Your call to Jim Carter should clarify this.

I have a front sway bar that I took off a 1955 Suburban. It will take a little adapting to fit on my '54 GMC, but I will install it, seems like everyone that has one likes it.
