| | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 4 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: May 2005 Posts: 4 | I got this idea from early fire engines, 1910s-30s era express pickups and the 47-54 factory assembly manual. A good example of an express pickup would be a 1920s Chevy or Model T Ford with a cowl windsheild and front fenders, running boards and rear fenders with a wooden sided bed.
I have two trucks, really more like one and a half. Both are 1951 models. One is a 5 window that is complete. The other is a cab and chassis. The cab and chassis is rough. This summer the chassis should be complete. The chassis will be stock except for a 1955 235. After the the chassis is complete I plan to start restoring the five window cab and sheet metal. It needs floors, the doors rebuilt, and corners. You know, the stuff most of them need. Since my chassis will be done I have thought of cutting the roof and back off of the rough parts cab. Placing this on my complete chassis with the front fenders, runningboards and rear fenders and building a wooden sided bed. Hence, a stock style 1951 Chevrolet Express. We can enjoy the truck like this until the cab and bed are ready to go on.
Is this crazy?

But if you think of it logically, everything we do in this hobby/lifestyle is crazy  Sounds like a great project! Go for it, but take lots of pictures and then write it up and send it in to the 'bolt.
