My 1940 pickup doesn't have a rear view mirror, doesn't appear like it ever did. Its driving me nuts not being able to look behind me without twisting my neck to look out the little rear window. I've got a little drivers side door mirror, but it doesn't do much good.

I've looked through Jim Carter and a few other catalogs but don't see a rear view mirror available. I do see them for '47 and up trucks.

Anybody know if these will work or any others that will fit without modification?

I'm getting a crick in my neck...

Steve

One from a 67-72 chevy truck has three bolt hole and will bolt above the windshield, I rummaged one for my 37 and it's gonna work nicely.

i have a 54 and ilike the uncluttered look so i took off my stock mirrors and put on peep mirrors, the only thing you might need to get aglue on convex mirror for the right side. RON

The rear view mirror in my '50 1/2 ton appears to be stock, and it mounts with screws just above the windsheild.

If it was me, i'd try and find one of those and stick in there.

NDNCHF, in response to your original question, You can use a 47-53 mirror, and mounting bracket. However, I don't think you'd like it.

They attached to the center post of the windshield and thus, wouldn't be much use, when you have the windshield cranked-out.

I have a mirror that was supposedly out of a 40 GMC/Chevy truck that I picked up on E-Bay. If you would like a picture, let me know, send me an e-mail, and I'll forward you one.

It has a slight curve on the mounting base that wont conform to my 46, but might work on your application.

GMONIZ, I believe you are correct. We did determine Steppenwood's mirror came out of a 40's Ford Car.

I've seen several on E-Bay, since my original post, but being the "Thrifty" type that I am, haven't found one yet that I wanted to pay for. So, for now, my search for the mirror I want continues.

Thanks for the ideas guys. That Ford mirror does look pretty nice. Jed, sent you an e-mail.

Thanks,

I just recived my rear view mirror from Chevs of the 40's the other day. I got the $60 985994 night and day mirror and it fit in my header panel with no problem, plus there it dosn't block any of your windshield view . I am sure that the $28 516506 would fit just as well. This is installed in my 46 but I also own a 40 GMC and the header panel is identical. I will take a picture If you would like to see.

That looks really nice. Thanks for the pics. Now I need to decide on which one to go with.

I think the plain one would work just as well besause you can hardly see the ribs on the back of the more expensive one. I just don't know if the cheaper one has anti glare, if you are concerned
