But it's bin siting in this guys garage four years with all the oil
And the gas in it ETR......(no battery).
so my question is can start her up and and drive her on the Trailer. or do i have to push it on?

:confused: | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | welcome to the garage, Truck! if ya wanna be xtra careful, push it on, but I'd take the easy way - pull the coil wire, crank it a bit to get the oil spread around, start it, and drive it on and be on my way! quite possible you'll find the gas in the carb has turned to sludge and varnish, but it just might run straight off, for a bit anyway  Bill | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 990 Member | | Member Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 990 | You can also did what I did when I got an old 47 jeep that sat up many years. Pull out the plugs and squirt a bit of oil in the cylinders and then with the plugs out crank it over a bit so that the rings get a bit of oil. If you have a big ratchet you can do it by hand and make sure there are no rough spots on the bearings. And if so, just crank it by hand until you get the oil moved about. Then you should be ok. Pull the dizzy and spin the oil pump for 2 minutes -
Pull the plugs and squirt some WD40 in.
Than crank it carefull over several times.
Prime the carb with some gas and a have someone to help you with starter spray
you should have enough oil pressure now for
a save start.

It smoked like freight train and missed and sputtered and all of that but I got her home okay.So you will be okay to drive it on the trailer.

After it cooled down the varnish glued the valves tight.Bent all the pushrods. The machine shop had to boil the head for two days just to get it apart. I did'nt need a valve job before that. I wont ever start one on old gas again. Cost me a lot of money just to be impatient.

The truck had been running fine in Colorado then a week before it was to be shipped to me it quit running. Got her here in Boston area and found 5 bent intake pushrods. Had to pull head and cut rods to get them out.
So oil isn't your only potential enemy!
