See what you guys can do with an old Stovebolt when you think outside the box??? No one notices a 350-powered anything anymore; smacks too much of "me-too-ism"!!! A 340-powered five-window, or that Cumminsbolt, now there's originality! Nice turnaround on those that booger up a perfectly good Mopar rod and put in a 350...ho-hum!

Well, putting a cab on a newer chassis doesn't impress me that much in the fabricating department. So he welded some mounts? Then you still have to do all the hard work to get it finished.

Ho-Hum Ho-Hum. Sorry, but, my budget isn't quite in line with my imagination. I'll stick with my 350. At least my truck isn't stuck in storage somewhere, or, stuck up on blocks, or, listed on ebay. I get to drive mine every day.Runs strong,sounds great. If something breaks, I can afford to fix it. Not everyone has the time, or, the resourses to put a Cummins diesel in their truck. If you do, more power to ya!

I have 2 bolts,both with 350s.The 72 came with a 350,the 55 has a transplant.Cant figure out what you guys have against 350s.Great running motors,stock or beefed up.Horsepower from around 160 to? the skies the limit.I have thought about putting a big block in the 72,but the cost is a little too high. The reason most of us stick with the 350 is cost and availability of parts.

There is nothing wrong with a 350. Asides from the fact that it gives oodles of power, lasts forever, doesn't leak oil on your garage floor, are cheap to buy and soup up etc etc. In other words, they just aren't eclectic enough.

Good engines (electrical motors, gas engines), but what's unique about a 350? Nothing.

I'll tell ya what that 700R4 won't last a week behind the Cummins!The torque will kill it don't know who would put a cummins in one anyway.He finally got around to puttin the front clip on and found out it won't fit! :rolleyes:Just rambling.

I'll say it again. Some people just can't afford to be "unique". I've always wanted a Hemi, sorry, can't afford it, Big Block? Ditto. A Rolls Royce "Merlin"? Now that's original & unique. I'd love to explore any one of these projects. Can't do it. Don't have the $$$$$!! Or the space. I drive my truck every day. It's not listed on Ebay because I ran out of funds & can't afford to finish it.

A guy would have to be a fool to put a 700R4 behind a Cummins!

Some of you guys are taking my comments a little personally, aren't you??? All I'm saying is that there are alternatives to a "me-too" 350. Nothing turns me away from an otherwise-top-notch street rod (ESPECIALLY a non-Chevy) and seeing a 350 engine in it at a car show. A Ford 302 in a Ford rod, or a 360 engine in a Mopar isn't a whole lot more expensive to build!!! I was at a show a while back and saw a slick '53 Cadillac coupe, as a mild custom job. I was expecting to see a dressed-out original engine, or even a later 472 or 500, but there was a 350 in a car that probably cost $60K-$70K to build! A 350 in that was just plain laziness on the owner's part.

Guys spending that kind of money to build a 350-powered rod or truck don't have the "I'm broke" excuse. Neither does anyone else, for that matter, in my humble opinion! Affordability is what you make it.

And, isn't uniqueness part of the fun of this whole hobby??? And that's why I'm putting an all-Mopar drivetrain in my son's '46 Chevy truck. One, all I need is in my shop. Two, it'll be a hoot when I say it has a "383" and the unsuspecting will expect a stroked 350 and see the distributor up front - on the Chrysler 383. And third, it's my son's truck.

Heck, I've even got a complete Hudson 6-cyl 308 with Twin-H (twin carbs) from a '53 Hornet AND a 3-speed with overdrive that would be downright cool in that truck! Of course, I'd rather save that engine for a '42 or '46-'7 Hudson pickup!

I like them all.

If someone had 60-70K to spend on a project, I can understand your point. If I had that that much money, I wouldn't be messin' with the small block either. Believe me, I have a rather vivid imagination. I'd like to build one of those "Rat Rods" that were featured on Rides a while back. That old Model "T" was cool. Maybe when I hit the lottery.
